Curriculum Vitae
  • Born in Mannheim (Germany) in 1949, Abitur 1968, military service in 1968 and 1969
  • Diploma in Mathematics in 1976 at the University of Heidelberg with a thesis in algebraic model theory
  • Doctoral degree in Computer Science in 1980 at University of Dortmund with a thesis on numerical analysis of Markovian computer system models
  • Scientific assistent, project manager, and lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Dortmund until 1992
  • Since 1993 professor of Computer Science at the University of Essen (since year 2003 University of Duisburg-Essen)
Research Interests
  • Performance evaluation of computing and communication systems
  • Modelling techniques and tools for quantitative system evaluation
  • Analytical techniques including queueing network models, Markov chains and stochastic Petri nets, Discrete event simulation
  • Fields of application include capacity planning, modelling of communication networks and performance of mobile agents systems
